Is there a discussion anywhere of the Substack subscription model? https://open.substack.com/pub/dsimpson/p/on-substack?r=3ezew&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

Like a lot of people here I can only afford to subscribe to a few writers. But if I want to read a specific post by someone else I can only do so by subscribing to all their posts. Could there not be some kind of pay per view option, in addition to the subscription model?

Why not write what you know, and we’ll read yours instead.

Hi David, there is a workaround. What you can do is subscribe for 1 month only. It's like a $5 pay per view option.

Which is exactly what I do 😂

I do I cancel the automatic renew on a paid yearly subscription...I never meant it to be forever.

You can even cancel on a month!

When one choses to pay for a month or a year, it just goes on forever. There is no option to chose or opt out of automatic renewal. Clever way to get money from your bank even after you're dead.

If having paid for a monthly subscription, you then go into “manage subscription “ and scroll down to the bottom you can choose “cancel subscription “. Your subscription remains valid for 30 days but does not renew. I agree it would be simpler if they gave you the option not to auto-renew while you were starting your subscription.

I fiannly figured it out ....

They know what they are doing. Getting paid forever from people who thought they were signing up for a generous year. Or, one month.

I'm sure that missing option is a big money maker.

I keep trying to upgrade to a paid subscription but the site isn’t allowing me to update my credit card and when I try to use Apple Pay it won’t go through. Thinking of cancelling all paid subscriptions be customer service is nonexistent.

Something interesting I noticed...clicking on upgrade to paid instantly transports me outside the app to my web browser. Unfortunately, with other links, I am forced to read them in the app. This is quite frustrating and means the app is useless for me to read link-heavy publications where I want to save links in tabs to read later after I finish an article. I cant even copy links! Please fix this.

I’ve just read a New Yorker essay on the decline of journalism. Literally nowhere (they are quite lengthy) does she even hint at the possibility of paying for just this article. I cannot possibly subscribe to the 9 billion Substack’s / podcasts / newsletters I might sometimes be interested in. I can pay €0.25 or whatever for this particular opinion or news piece. Actually I’d love to pay the New Yorker or Economist or Spectator occasionally for something, but not to sell my soul to their worldview.

Hi Linda - can you explain how I get different amounts showing - is it when people join mid month or to do with exchange rates or both - I'm so confused? Thanks

I have a question that someone here may be able to answer. I just turned on paid subscriptions yesterday. I had a handful of pledges but a couple of them don't appear to have upgraded to paid subs (around 24 hours later). Is there a reason for that? Did they just change their minds? Or is there a longer lag sometimes before pledges convert?

Hey, how do I pay an author who has paid subscriptions available. There seems to be no jump from author’s page to a payment set up

Specifically, trying to pay for subscriptions to Chris Bray’s Tell Me How This Ends & Michael Schellenberger’s Public but I can’t upgrade to paid where it offers opportunity to subscribe (only for free)

Hello, i am trying to manage this on mobile and when i go to “settings” the page is blank. I would add a pic but cannot here.

And does Substack not have even an email support address? All I am seeing are FAQs.

Thanks if anyone can help!

Annual vs. Monthly Subscriptions:

I want to add a course as an incentive for annual subscription plans. How can I ensure that only annual subscribers have full access to the course, while monthly subscribers do not? Is this possible?

I wish there was a way to re-name all the subscriber tiers, not just the founding member one.
