Is there a discussion anywhere of the Substack subscription model? https://open.substack.com/pub/dsimpson/p/on-substack?r=3ezew&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

Like a lot of people here I can only afford to subscribe to a few writers. But if I want to read a specific post by someone else I can only do so by subscribing to all their posts. Could there not be some kind of pay per view option, in addition to the subscription model?

I do I cancel the automatic renew on a paid yearly subscription...I never meant it to be forever.

I keep trying to upgrade to a paid subscription but the site isn’t allowing me to update my credit card and when I try to use Apple Pay it won’t go through. Thinking of cancelling all paid subscriptions be customer service is nonexistent.

Something interesting I noticed...clicking on upgrade to paid instantly transports me outside the app to my web browser. Unfortunately, with other links, I am forced to read them in the app. This is quite frustrating and means the app is useless for me to read link-heavy publications where I want to save links in tabs to read later after I finish an article. I cant even copy links! Please fix this.

Hello! I have 2 questions:

-When will Substack writers be able to use the "upgrade to paid to listen" feature on article voiceovers like Stephen Fry has? I really, really want to do that for my newsletter!

-If one couldn't read the full newsletter, is it possible to have snippets of audio interspersed throughout the article vs. just at the top?

Thank you!

Kate

I’ve just read a New Yorker essay on the decline of journalism. Literally nowhere (they are quite lengthy) does she even hint at the possibility of paying for just this article. I cannot possibly subscribe to the 9 billion Substack’s / podcasts / newsletters I might sometimes be interested in. I can pay €0.25 or whatever for this particular opinion or news piece. Actually I’d love to pay the New Yorker or Economist or Spectator occasionally for something, but not to sell my soul to their worldview.

If anyone is interested in complaining about Substack's/Stripe's rates, I just found out that YouTube is charging a walloping 45%! Forteee-FIVE! Bloody hell. What a bunch of pirates!

"Publications that paywall at least some of their content make on average five times as much revenue as publications that publish all their content for free!"

Sounds logic to me 🤓😅

Hi Linda - can you explain how I get different amounts showing - is it when people join mid month or to do with exchange rates or both - I'm so confused? Thanks
